1. Tell me about yourself or Introduce yourself?

The introduction is a common scenario in the interview and most interviewers start the interview by asking to introduce yourself .The introduction can go in any direction as it mostly depends on the interviewee, but a smart interviewer knows what to look for.
It is a common question that is obviously asked in all interview processes but sometimes answers matters the most. This introduction process brings out the level of confidence of the candidate.

2. Did you ever play any sports?

The candidate can talk about their experience playing sports on the flip side of reporting. Previous experience playing sports shows that the candidate understands what it takes to be an athlete, even on a small scale, and understands the inner workings of team dynamics.

3. How do you develop relationships with athletes?

A strong reporter is able to create contacts who help them find story ideas. Sports reporters create contacts with athletes, coaches, and those inside the organization who will update them with the latest news from the team or department. The candidate should discuss their experience generating sources in sports or in other fields, and talk about how their ability to create strong relationships will strengthen the sports department.

4. ‘Do You Prefer Working Independently or on a Team?’

For most projects or assignments, I found that having multiple brains working toward the same final product was very beneficial. Also, I’ve always been a team player, ever since I was in grade school and got involved in team sports. I know that being cooperative, open-minded, and focused are important aspects of being a successful team member, and I pride myself in having those qualities.

5. How good are your communication skills?

Communication is a common element that creates a connection between two people. And being proficient in communication is the main skill that each and every employer expects from their candidates. Therefore, if a candidate is not that sure about their proficiency in communications, then they should always be honest with their interviewing panel to avoid confusions in near future.

6. Could you give examples from past experience where you ensured optimal staff levels for a facility?

It is essential for the candidate to express this ability to ensure targets are met, and to optimize staff satisfaction and retention.

7. How did you coach personal trainers in previous positions to assist members in reaching their fitness goals?

The potential hire’s answer will demonstrate their capability to train staff, their people skills and their abilities as a Fitness Director.

8. When you have been let go and they ask about it?

This is actually not a common question and only comes up rarely, but as we know it’s one of the hardest to answer, we wanted to integrate it in our post anyway. Whatever reason there was, that you have been let go, there’s two rules to follow when answering:
1. Don’t badmouth your former employer
2. Focus on the positive and the opportunities that came out of it
Emphasize that you’re excited for the new opportunity to prove yourself, to pursue a new position that fits you better

9. Why do you want to work for Sport Chek?

• Mention you love sports and you love working with people and you think working at Sport Chek will allow you to do both.
• State you want a job that keeps you active.
• Say you feel you have excellent communication skills which will help you work well with customers and other team members.

10. What is your greatest strength?

• I am a quick learner (this is a great answer to Sport Chek because employees will have to spend less time training you)
• I am good with people (this is a good answer as you will constantly be working with people at Sport Chek)

11. How do you define excellent customer service?

• The staff is knowledgeable about the products they sell.
• The staff is never too busy to help the customer.
• Product lines are well stocked and the customer can always get the product they want.
• The lines at the checkout are never too long.

12. How do you feel about performance incentives?

Performance incentives can be very motivating. Talk to the interviewer about your feelings regarding performance incentives.

13. Personality fit is important to us at Sport Chek. How would you describe your personality?

Personality and character are two very different things. The interviewer is looking for more information on your traits vs. your integrity. These examples could include buzzwords such as introverted, energetic, and confident.

14. Why do you want to work for us?

To answer this question successfully, focus on the employer’s needs, not what you want. It helps to demonstrate that you’re a good fit for the role, says Margaret Buj, author of Land That Job. Show your knowledge of the company by mentioning something specific about the job that really interests you. “It can be their new lines of business or technology they use – make sure you’ve done your research,” adds Buj. You could also talk about the company culture or management structure.
