Job Description

The Perioperative Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the facility. Our Nurses serve as a resource to the healthcare team for complex decision making and they are committed to establishing individualized plans of care for the patient undergoing perioperative care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess status and needs of surgical patients and function intra-operatively as a circulator.
  • Ensure that proper patient identification, resources, and time outs are done to maintain patient safety.
  • Monitor all activities within the operating room and have knowledge of functions, performance and troubleshooting of all equipment and instruments.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetic with patients and families while provide intra-operative patient education.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with other clinical staff, surgeons, anesthesiologists and business office personnel.
  • Provide accurate and complete medical record documentation while providing a comprehensive report on patients’ status to recovery nurse when transferring patient from operating room.
  • Pick correct supplies for next days’ cases, maintain appropriate levels of supply inventory in operating rooms, and when assigned maintain appropriate levels of drug/medication inventory as well as appropriate supply levels specific to surgical specialties.
  • Must be able to handle moderate to heavy amounts of lifting patients, supplies and instruments trays
  • Accept additional related duties as assigned by the DON.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing with current MO state licensure to practice.
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS)/Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification
  • At least 2 year of multi-specialty ambulatory surgery experience preferred.
