Job Description

Description

From launching “The Run-Up” ahead of the 2016 election to following Rashida Tlaib on “The Daily” as she navigates her first year in Congress, The New York Times Audio team has been telling ambitious stories about politics and politicians. And with the 2020 election on the horizon, we want to do more.

We are looking for audio producers and editors with various backgrounds and experiences to help shape what political stories we tell next. You’ll be expected to show creativity and autonomy in finding and pitching the most compelling ideas. Some of these will be deeply rooted in Times journalism, which means you must be comfortable working with Times reporters on bringing their stories to life in audio form. Other ideas may take you outside of the newsroom, perhaps on the campaign trail, where you will be expected to pull off what you need from the field and on deadline. And you should be interested in exploring new ways to make the best of familiar audio forms, like in creating a best-in-class conversation show.

As you’re chasing ambitious stories that sound unlike anything you’ve heard before, you must also understand the value of Times journalism and appreciate being on a highly collaborative team. Here, everyone pitches in with everything, including work like transcribing interviews, tracking down archival audio, participating in story meetings and group edits and editing sessions in Pro Tools.

While this isn’t a posting for a specific role, we want to hear from you and stay engaged with possible candidates for a range of audio producer and audio editor roles on a politics show. If interested, please send us your resume and a cover letter on what excites you about working on a Times politics podcast.
